Food Innovation Product Award 2018
Senior Minister of State Sim Ann graced the Food Innovation Product Award Ceremony on 19 April 2018 at MAX Atria Singapore Expo, and presented the awards to the winning teams from Jumain Sataysfaction Pte Ltd, Life3 Biotech, Mr Popiah Pte Ltd, Tai Hua Food Industries Pte Ltd and Tan Seng Kee Foods Pte Ltd at the second edition of the Food Innovation Product Award.
The Food Innovation Product Award (FIPA) is one of the key initiatives championed by SFMA supporting the Food Manufacturing Industry Transformation Map launched in November 2016. Since the inaugural FIPA in 2016, the competition has brought together close to 50 teams of food manufacturers and students from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to collaborate and create new and exciting food products. It gives food manufacturers the chance to develop new innovation capabilities and enhance their competitive edge in local and overseas markets. Many of the food manufacturers have since commericalised their products in both B2B and B2C formats, locally and overseas.
Through FIPA 2018, SFMA guided the food manufacturers and students through an enhanced 9-month innovation methodology to develop business capabilities, gain consumer and market insights, and facilitate the commercialisation of novel food ingredients, processing methods and products. The teams were able to access a larger pool of innovation partners such as Nielsen, User Experience Centre, Monash University’s Food Innovation Centre, SIT University and FIRC.
Besides the cash prizes, commercialisation support of up to S$129,000 will be extended to the winning teams to strengthen their product development and scale up product commercialisation. These incentives, supported by Enterprise Singapore and administered by SFMA, will help to defray qualifying costs of commercialization, which may include product and market testing, product prototype development, and market launch strategies in local and global markets.
"SFMA will be working with partners such as Enterprise Singapore and NTUC Fairprice to promote these products locally. Beyond the FIPA, SFMA will continue to support the growth of the industry and strengthen Singapore\'s brand of food products in various overseas markets through overseas Tasty Singapore trade shows, such as SIAL Paris and Gulfood in Dubai, and retail permanent aisle promotion", said Mr Thomas Pek, President, Singapore Food Manufacturers\' Association
