Indonesia is the 4th largest country with its population of 250 million people, and the 15th largest economy in the world. The demand for imported food ingredients is growing as consumers are increasingly international and affluent.
According to Euromonitor, retail sales in the packaged food market in Indonesia was estimated to have reached US$24.5 billion in 2016, making it the largest in Southeast Asia. This correlates to a growth rate of over nearly 57% or US$8.9 billion since 2012. By the year 2021, retail sales in the packaged food market in Indonesia is expected to grow 48.2% to reach US$40.1 billion. High growth categories include ice cream and frozen desserts, breakfast cereals, ready meals, processed meat and seafood, savory snacks, sauces dressings and condiments, dairy and rice pasta and noodles.
